Hope you had a fun weekend and enjoy this evening! Our town has a costume parade every Friday before Halloween. This year we dressed as a family when Emerson decided she wanted to be Wednesday Addams. Karl had the nickname Lurch when he was a teen so it was a given who he would dress up as.
Family Addams Family Costumes for Halloween
For Karl, it's his shirt and suit, and he added the bow tie I had from a previous Rocky Horror costume. I put white shadow on his face too, a blend of the mauve and grey shadow under his eyes and a bit of contouring. Black liner on his brows and around his eyes. He added some pomade to his hair and roughed it up while it was still damp. My costume was slapped together last minute; I ordered a wig from Amazon, this dress (which is a great dress to have to build for many costumes, I even wore to work one day!), and put my makeup on with one hand while on a conference call.
To make Emerson's costume, we took a simple black knit dress (this one actually) and added a white collar (this one from Amazon). I took some matte white eyeshadow and applied to her face just to be a tad pale, and some dusty mauve shadow under her eyes. On the bottom, she just did black tights and since she outgrew her Mary Janes, wore her knee-high black boots. This is a dress you can make warmer for a chilly night; add leggings, another layer underneath. We bought reflective dots to add to her dress so she will be seen tonight; we used these same stickers last year for her witch costume and they're great.
It was awesome to find a family costume that was easy to wear and easy on the wallet! Let me know in the comments if you dressed up and if so what you wore!

Cold weather is approaching (and already has landed in the more northern parts of the planet) and with all the cute dresses and skirts in the stores this season, what’s a girl supposed to do to prevent frostbite on her knees? You know by now my opinion on pantyhose (hate it, only approve when an…
This spring/summer I bought two pairs of cropped (ankle length) pants. One is a pair of skinny black jeans and the other a pair of burgundy tapered slacks. I’ve worn them with flowy tops and sandals or ballerina flats and now I wonder how to style these pants for fall/winter. The colors and material will…
One of the benefits to using affiliate links is I can retrieve analytics on them. How often were they clicked, how often did they end up selling, what are the most popular categories, brands, and more. I found your favorites were some of my favorite purchases from the year – great minds think alike! Do…
I spent two weeks away from home this July, on the road sleeping in hotels. Most places we only stayed one night and often didn’t have the time to babysit our clothes at a laundromat. We only did proper laundry once on Day 7 yet I, a fashion lover, not only survived with a carry-on…
In 2011, my friend Lisa invited me to her house to check out a new clothing line she was selling called cabi. I shared my review of cabi and soon after shared a recap of hosting a cabi fashion experience. Later that year, cabi found me through these blog posts and sent me a couple…
When I think of a True Fashionista, one of the first women who comes to mind is Judith of the blog Style Crone. I have enjoyed her blog and amazing personal style for years and was thrilled when I saw her featured in Ari Seth Cohen’s book Advanced Style. I was so honored that she…
So perfect! I hope you have an excellent portrait of you 3 in costume to hang on the wall. Or maybe it can be your Christmas card. I know I’m out there. 🙂
What a great family costume! LOVE little Wednesday. I have a zombie, age 9, who is going in tie-dye shirt and sweatpants and a carefully painted face, and a McGonagall, age 11, who has a robe and Griffindor scarf and witch hat. I don’t usually dress up unless I’m going to a party, and since it’s a Monday, not this year!
Love this! Those black & white photos are fabulous!! We are boycotting Halloween this year; I have two boys (14 & 18) who don’t want to dress up and two dogs who bark/growl at anything in the street and might snap at costumes that look “weird” to them (fabric that blows in the wind, masks, etc). The dogs are already spooked due to fireworks for Diwali the last two nights. Have a great time tonight!
